Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
and I don't like Alex Garland's solo work very much but 28 Years Later had lots of really fun, crazy shit in it and I'm looking forward to the next one
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
also I saw the new film by the guy who remade Suspiria last night, it was alright
I haven't seen the Suspiria remake, mostly because I hate Thom Yorke

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
hopefully Tron: Arse has failed so spectacularly that he will never get cast again
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
The suspira remake is a perfectly fine but largely unmemorable horror film that seems to think it's actually a really serious meditation on the holocaust or something.
But it's not suspiria at all

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
also the man who made new suspiria made a version of william burroughs queer with daniel craig as william burroughs for some reason
(it was okay, with a couple of really incredible scenes, which is basically my review of most of his films i've seen)

Yeah, that's the basic problem with it. I just don't see the point of having made it. You may as well say you're going to make a new Pink Panther film and then make a James Bond one instead, with lots of ominous references to the Berlin Walldng wrote: Tue Oct 21, 2025 12:00 pm The suspira remake is a perfectly fine but largely unmemorable horror film that seems to think it's actually a really serious meditation on the holocaust or something.

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
In regards to "Queer", I remember watching the David Cronenberg adaption of Naked Lunch back in the day. It wasn't very good, despite them depicting things like living typewriters and mugwumps and all that. It was sort of half bits taken from the book and half biography. Cronenberg stayed away from the "talking asshole" story, presumably because it was funny
Really all adaptions of Burroughs's work should be along the lines of this

I quite like a lot of the cronenberg naked lunch thing (especially ian holm), but it is the most bafflingly heterosexual burroughs adaptation its presumably possibly to make.

It's surprisingly watchable, and I don't want to hit M. Broderick in the faece like I do in Ferris Bueller's Day Orf.
I think there's a bit part with the guy who would go on to voice Mandark on "Dexter's Laboratory" a decade later though (cast against type as a library-dwelling pocket-protectored capital-N Nerd) so that's fun.
Also I quote the "how about a nice game of chess" bit often.

I don't like it. Too stunted and awkward. Also for some reason the characters make me think of Romancing Saga Minstrel Song

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
islands - sam riley is relentlessly sexy while also looking exactly like jamie vardy, a combination i would have hitherto considered impossible
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Haha I saw that, but did not make the Vardy connection, and I am grateful
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
it made everything 78% more unsettling

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
i watched the new frankenstein film and it was absolute bollocks. poor old guillermo del toro and his increasingly useles film making abilities (i didn't see pinochio so maybe that was good who knows)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
although also i was trying to think if there are any actually good frankenstein films and i'm pretty sure there's not
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
young frankenstein doesn't count
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
and nor do pretend frankensteins like edward scissorhands or poor things
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
which is a shame because i bloody love frankenstein (the bok)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
but de Niro
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I'd prefer Frankenstein films if the monster was 2000ft tall and stamping on buildings, whilst quipping.

I have now seen 2001: A Space Laughing Gnome three times on 70mm. I am quite pleased at this hat-trick, which I was able to do via cinema membership allowing me cheaper tickets
Also on Monday I saw this at the BFI Southbank, introduced by Laura Mulvey

hooray. maybe i'll watch then
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
What do you get if you cross Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, some sort of mummified ape man, a spy thief, an alien, a train, snow, a mad monk, a baroness, telly savalas as a Cossack ?
It’s Horror Express, some sort of spaghetti horror film on bbc iplayer.
Genuine 7/10

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I'm sure when I saw that it was called something different but equally crappy, like death train or something, but i can find no evidence of this on a four second search of google
anyway, somehow telly savalas in this is worse than he is in any other thing, and he is always the worst thing in every other thing he's ever been in, so that's some impressive telly savalasing alright
