Also on the recommendation of Daren about three years ago, I have been play hellblade: senuas sacrifice, which I don't know i f Daren played or just thought might be the sort of thing I'd like, and it was the sort of thing I'd like, hooray

This was basically that Viking god of war game, but instead of playing some macho twat whose in a huff because he has to look after his son for the weekend, you're a grief stricken woman who wants to kill herself.

The actual gameplay of this is in general rubbish (the combats increasingly tedious - possibly for thematic reasons - and 90% of the puzzles are identical - which I'm sure wasn't for thematic reasons at all) but it has an absolutely incredible atmosphere, and the bits of the game that are basically a high budget dear Esther are wonderful. Also it's only maybe six or so hours long, so the wearying combat wasn't enough to put me off

Also hyper light drifter says it was made in game maker or something, so once again I want to make a game now too. But then I remembered I spent most of January trying to make something in unity, ever got anywhere because everything's bloody video tutorials now, and then spent the next three months making cartoons instead because it was easier and I felt like I was achieving something with my time at least

Every time I reached one and thought ARGH THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE but then figured out how to win after a few goes and it felt really satisfying

I'm currently playing Horace*, which is an odd retro platform adventure in which you're effectively Bicentennial Man and it seems to be heavily influenced by Jet Set Willy except not in a bad way (ie it's not absolutely impossible)

* no relation

Hooray. Maybe that means I'm just rubbish and need to improve

Also I think you can reach the first three bosses in any order so it's possible our experiences may be different!

But after finishing it I went back to Dead Cells and won on the difficulty level I'd been struggling on for ages, I think it genuinely made me a bit better at boss fights

This was the top section boss, some sort of bird man who has a very annoying series of explosive patterns that I keep getting caught by even when it feels like I shouldn't have been

But now I've gone off elsewhere in the hope maybe I can afford some new attacks/moves

Inevitably the very next time I tried it I killed him without getting hit in about thirty seconds

And then I killed a frog monster too and now I've got loads of guns and some new moves

I made half of a choose your own adventure game in unity earlier this year. Obviously I didn’t finish because it was a choose your own adventure game and nobody ever finishes them.

In accordance with n3ta tradition the choose your own adventure was about crabs.

I always think "maybe I'll keep playing for a bit and find the extra things" but then I don't

Although with that in mind, I did search for SOME of the extra things before I took on the final boss

I guess I did quite a bit of the extra stuff in Breath of the Wild. But not all of it, because fucking hell

Yes why is it so strangely depressing playing more of a game once you're 'completed' it? I played Red Dead Redemption for about an hour after finishing the main story, because there was some great big desert you could explore and a desert town that the main game never made you visit for some reason, but the whole experience was just utterly dispiriting and I wish I hadn't bothered.

Joke about how the whole of Red Dead Redemption 2 was utterly dispiriting and I wish I hadn't bothered.

It's true of all games though. Or at least all role playing/exploration type games.

Actually maybe that's the reason - you suddenly go from being needed by and central to the world, to being utterly irrelevant.

Also its because all games are actually terrible but you're trying to pretend they aren't and so let the story distract you from the utter futility of all existence

I always like how everyone here has the correct opinions on games. If you said this round Reddit's gaff you'd be buried under an avalanche of screeching

Also David, I feel your pain on video tutorials. Half the time I decide to not do the thing I want to do rather than watch them.

Then some time later I decide to steel myself and push through an extremely loud and pointless intro, an equally pointless preamble which goes through a problem you are already well aware of in excruciating detail, a lot of rewinding and pausing because they rush through something too fast, some confusion because they leave a minor yet vitally important detail out, and once you've got past all that they have the audacity to ask you to "like, comment, and subscribe" as if anyone subscribes to video tutorial channels and are not just glad it's over and done with.

It's not the last but it's sort of close because the others all have stupid subtitles

I got stuck a few times too so it probably is this one you're thinking of

I preferred the film. :)

the second film is enjoyably odd, I liked that one the best of the three

but none of them are particularly good

I spent a long time running around her mansion getting the butler to follow me about, in either Tomb Raider 2 or 3, whichever the one is where you get to run around her mansion and there's a butler.

At one point, CGI Lara Croft appeared on the cover of all PC games magazines, near simultaneously, or so it seemed.

And a rather decent scrolly road game engine, too.
