I'm playing Final Fantasy 7 at the moment (the PS4 port of the PC port of the PS1 game). I just thought I'd google the bit where sweet innocent naive old Aeris threatens to rip the mafia boss's cock off, and this was the search result it gave me

Also it's quite funny how the wall market section of Final Fantasy 7 is basically a yakuza game for five minutes. And then the Shinra building is a very tiny Metal Gear Solid (mild stealth, crawling around in air ducts, following Sephiroth/Ninja's trail of carnage down some corridors, and it even has a bit where you spend ten minutes climbing up a staircase)

Consolevania update: no more CVXX, they will be doing things separately (for the CV Patreon) for the foreseeable, but they are not stopping entirely. I think it's actually a logistics issue rather than a falling-out. Still a bit of a shame though.

Ehis sent me this the other day: https://bbcexile.com/
We have a shared love of / obsession with this game, which I had on the BBC Micro and he had on the Amiga (due to seeing the version I had).
I am very frightened, although I have a lot of leave to take between now and the end of the year so perhaps it will not matter that I inevitably end up sinking days into this.

Bruce were you aware of Revs on the BBC? It was the first sim by Geoff Crammond in 1985. It was recently recompiled for native PC, with support for modern wheels and shit, and some crazy guy even modded extra tracks into it

I have very little knowledge of the BBC Micro other than the games I had; I never found a place that sold them, so the only additions to my collection came when one of my uncles bought me a few in 1989: Elite, Exile, and a Predator tie-in. The BBC and its games originally belonged to another uncle, who died unexpectedly in 1986 (pneumonia aggravated by lupus), and I think they just gave it to me because no one knew what to do with it.

Years and years later, my dad threw the whole lot out with zero warning. I continue to be aggrieved about this, not least because he could have sold it for quite a lot of money. Typical of my dad.

The original games were:
Hobbit text adventure
Planetoid (Defender clone)
Atlantis (Penetrator clone)
Birds of Prey (Galaxians clone)
Alien Break-In
Atom Smasher
The Wizard
Protector (didn't work)
Mined Out (finally completed this on an emulator during Covid lockdown)
The Welcome tape (featuring the amazing Yellow River Kingdom)
... and a load that my uncle had typed out from magazines and saved to tape, many of which stopped working because the tape wore out. I remember George and the Dragon, Death Watch, and of course Bomber which is the only game my dad has ever really liked, apart from the time he got obsessed with doing the time trial on Mario Raceway on Mario Kart 64 for some reason.

re: The Welcome tape (featuring the amazing Yellow River Kingdom)

I loiked Welcome tapes, although I wish computer companies had done Farewell tapes, too. These could've consisted of sampled sounds of crying, a quiz in which the computer tries to guess which computer/console you're replacing them with, and then the tape could've exploded and covered you in shards of fibreglass.

Chinnyvision gone dun a video of Outrun on the Master System being converted to the Amstrad CPC via AI. It's sort of impressive that it can do that, but the graphics (road scroll routine aside) and sound aren't great, so it's kinda pointless, really.

I wasn't sure about the ball sticking to the players feet, but as you get closed down pretty quickly, it very much becomes a game about strategic passing.
