Did you write this one bruce:

Definitions from Oxford Languages

compatriot
/kəmˈpeɪtrɪət,kəmˈpatrɪət/
noun
plural noun: compatriots
a fellow citizen or national of a country.
"Stich defeated his compatriot Boris Becker in the quarter-finals"

No, that's (mostly) a different editorial team. That dictionary is based on this one, which I believe was the first OUP dictionary to be entirely separate from the OED (other shorter dictionaries were all based on OED text). A few colleagues work on both what is now ODO (Oxford Dictionaries Online) and the OED, but I'm not one of them. Although one of the people who works on both is also a tennis fan, so that might explain it.

Although I'm not sure it's him I'm targeting, or just tennis's unerring ability to find the worst of all possible courses regarding doping.

yes. i quite like sinner for some reason but his ban/no ban/okay but only a really convenient ban that doesn't affect anything was utterly stupid rubbish

also the tennis was good this week i enjoyed it. I don't know if sticking a roof on the courts has made the clay courts less clay court-ish or something, but there seemed to be a lot less tedious chipping it up and down the centre back and forth forever non event rallies than usual this year, which was nice

also coco gauff winning was nice. as was sabalenka being a big bad terrible loser afterwards

this dogshit kyrgios/sabalenka match already seemed the most dismal thing possible, but now it turns out it exists almost purely for pro-transphobia reasons

instead of merely stupid misogynistic reasons

ALCATRAZ WINS

Hooray, the jammy microphone-headed bastard has been thwarted yet again.

Also Sabalenka seems to have real trouble winning slams for some reason.

HBO max is absolutely super shite also. I had to watch it with the sound off, not just because the commentary was a load of djokovic fellating bilge, but also cause the audio's so out of sync you hear them calling the shot out before it's even cleared the net

Oh, it was Chapman Baxter's last victim who was remote-controlled, wasn't it. I blame the heat.

Re: Tennis

Apparently Castle was so sad at being told this was his last year commentating on the Wimbledon men's final that he tendered his resignation, even though they were going to let him carry on in other matches. I can only assume that at least one senior ex-player had intimated to the BBC that enough was enough. Then the Telegraph etc. tried to spin it as some sort of injustice against the white man as usual. As I said to my parents, the real reason is clear to anyone who's ever heard him talk: he's fucking shit and has got away with it for far far too long.

It will be like having new ears.

Am I right in thinking they didn't mention his departure at all in the post-match sitting-about with Tim Henman et al? Also I hadn't realised John Lloyd was leaving as well. I didn't mind him, not least because he knew when to shut the hell up.
