This reminds me a bit of the Ghana friendly, quite a few years ago, where they played the match like it was the World Cup final.

Auckland's second best football team (the best one competes in the Australian league rather than in the NZ league) somehow managed to draw 1-1 with Boca Juniors in the Club World Cup!

Well done them!

Also the ref Ray Tinkler, who cost Revie's Leeds the championship in 1971, is still with us at the grand old age of 96.
I hoep match commentator Barry Davies (aged 87) is still infuriated with Tinkler's championship title changing decision.

yeah, i have no idea how they do the seedings, but its pretty weird there's three of the six or so teams who could win it in the same group, and then a load of old rubbish in switzerland's group (i assume there was one seeded team per group, and switzerland got seeded as they're the hosts)

Troo.
Yesterday's performance was much better, and if we play anything like that against lovely Wales, it could be a bit of a spanking.

These nightmarish events will continue to happen until the EU admits they were wrong, and agrees to sign a trade deal that massively favours the UK!

Also poor Sweden. Should have won it normal time, should have won it in extra time, should have won on penalties
But somehow didn't win it at all

Indeed. I'm still trying to work out how we're playing Italy in the semis. And they're not as good as Sweden, imo, so we've got a chance, there. Somehow?!?
Also, most of our penalties were a bloody disgrace.

Yes I think that was the worst penalty shootout I've ever seen. There was one Sweden penalty that was basically perfect, and most of the rest were dreadful.
Also for some reason I'm going to be in (or at least very near) Geneva on Tuesday when England play Italy there, so I'm now trying to navigate the UEFA resale site for tickets. ("Unfortunately, the item you have selected is no longer available")

Lauren James's penalty was so bad, I kicked the pedal bin (yellow colour).

The best penalties are the ones where they absolutely smash it into the top corner, like Harry Maguire or Chloe Kelly.

Although I guess I agree a completely chaotic penalty shootout is better than a very competent one.

My father's penalty-taking philosophy has always amused me.
"Don't try to do anything clever, just kick it as hard as you can in the right direction. If you don't score, you might at least injure the goalie."

Chloe Kelly's penalty was great, one of the few players who can make a fancy run-up look cool rather than annoying

I thought France should've beaten Germany last night, especially 11 v 10 for most of the match. And that was a helluva save by the German keeper to stop the own goal.
