They seem to have killed off the pope by making him do Easter.

I wonder who he’ll regenerate into this time.

A lot of people won't have noticed this or really understand who this is, but David Thomas of Pere Ubu has died. That's not Dave Thomas the Canadian actor and comedian who's appeared in loads of films and sitcoms, nor the Dave Thomas who founded Wendy's, and he also wasn't the David Thomas who is currently head of Barratt Homes, or David A. Thomas the Canadian programmer, who should not be confused with the other David Thomas who is another programmer.

The Pere Ubu David Thomas was born in Miami, and died in Hove. Somehow this is quite appropriate for reasons I can't even begin to explain. "Cantankerous" was very much the word to describe him, and he was reportedly a rather odd and difficult man to get on with. Nevertheless he made some extraordinary rock music from the 70s onwards, particuarly once punk / post-punk got going.

I had the reissue of his band's first LP "The Modern Dance" in my twenties, and this remains the most extraordinary "cut" from it, a song called "Non-Alignment Pact".

On The Chart Show, mebbe?

I thought the vocals were nuts, but in a good way. :)

RIP DT

Brian Wilson went through so much insane shit it's unbelievable. At least he seemed to reach some sort of peace in his later years.

R. Dogs was the best Tarantino film (due to Madsen, rest of cast, story, and no fetish shots)

My mum.

She passed away last Friday afternoon, during an operation. Been very strange since then... I've been keeping going with distractions. I don't know what you'd call this part of the grieving process. A weird state between numbness, anger, and the deepest sadness you could imagine. There's a sense that a major link to the past has been cut, entirely unexpectedly.

All the while I've been making music, playing games, going food shopping in the usual places, pretending that everything's fine despite the fact that my mum is gone. I remember waving goodbye to her the evening before the operation. Genuinely didn't think it would be the last time I would see her, at least alive. Why wouldn't it go fine? Well, it didn't. I don't know.

So for now I'm off work. There's so many things to do in the wake of someone dying. I kind of already knew that, but I'm in the thick of things at the moment. Thankfully I have my dad, my sister, and my brother-in-law as well. There's so many reminders of her around the place it's like a grotesque practical joke. I found one of her old coats in dad's car boot the other day. And an old nightie she used to wear. The clothes looked sad somehow. How can a shirt or a coat or a nightie or something like that look sad? All lost and abandoned.
