That was the first point and click adventure I ever played, mad to see it updated in such a way. Although: ACAB.
Happy new year, by the way.

And I missed the 40th birthday of the Commodore 64!
This is the one thing I didn't want to happen...

'When I'm 64', played on the 64th anniversary of the Commrode 64.
The Mayans predicted this would happen.

it probably is too hard though really. I got as far as unlocking all the shortcuts but then took a break and haven't gone back to it
I can't do this last shortcut at all. how the hell you can get a hired helper man through more than about half a level without him suiciding uselessly is beyond me
I still haven't done this but I gave up trying and actually got to the final boss today (or presumably the first boss of many if you want to do something impossible).
Anyway I couldn't even work out out how to hurt her even slightly and then I died and never got back there again
the end

I looked up how to do it on the internet and it seeme that even if I'd been armed with a shotgun I'd still have to have shot her twenty times in the face
But I didn't have a shotgun or any ropes and only two bombs and she was immune to them anyway. I'm not sure hitting her with my whip fifty times would even be possible

It was at the end of new Babylon, which has killed me instantly every time I've entered it before or since, but this one time for some reason everything was lined up so I just walked through all the levels unharmed

Sonic The Hedgehog has been released on the C64!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Cg8r-VmeMk
I was mightily impressed until I read that you needed the REU (??) (RAM Expansion Unit) for it to work.
The next thing was, I thought this REU must be a new add-on for the machine, but it turns out that it was released by Commodore in 1986, and I never even knew of it's existence, which surprised me, as I was always ogling all the cartridges and peripherals for the machine!
That all said, I'm still impressed by the conversion.

I tried playing that yakuza game i bought in a sale about a year ago, but it turns out the only way to save your game is to go and visit a phone box rather than being able to do it from a menu or having any sort of autosave, so fuck that.

Yakuza games seem to revel in annoying you with cutscenes, save points and other tedious junk
Some people really like that for some reason I can't fathom

i have played three yakuza games and they are all the same except yakuza 0 was good and the others weren't very good (yakuza 0 was the only one with the telephone box saving scheme, though, and yes its infuriating, especially as there's regularly bits with no saves at all for 3 hours or more)

If Nintendo had sued Anirog into oblivion, then they wouldn't have morphed into Anco Software, so we wouldn't have Kick Off, thus Dino Dini would've never been born!

for some reason i bought a soul calibur game today (soul calibur 6, which is presumably the most recent one). i don't really remember soul calibur ever being particulalry deep/complex before, but now it's almost absurdly convoluted, with about a million different types of blocking, counters, counter to the counters, blocks to the counters, counters to the blocks, energy bars, power moves, and a thousand other incomprehensible things i will never learn nor use ever again
Re: Games

also in the 20 years since i last played a soul calibur game, the main change is that now everyone's ubbs are even bigger than ever before. also there's a mechanic where peoples clothes progressively explode off their bodies throughout the fight, so even if your character is one of the few that starts the game actually clothed rather than prancing around in their underwear, by the end they are also prancing around in their underwear

there's a game editor thing for this now

with which i failed comprehensively to actually make a game. but i did make this title screen

its quite fiddly/broken in places, unfortunately. you can export your games (as a .json file) so it's possible we can share things if we actually make anything workable, for playing in the editor only
but also possibly not who knows

I'm just tatting about with the editor at the mo, and the player sprite editor in particular.
It's a pity to hear that its somewhat borken.
