aaaaaaargh (a game)

i made a game. it is called aaaaaaargh!

you should be able to play it through the playdate pulp game maker thing here: https://play.date/pulp/ (you might need to make an account first)

to install it you'll need to extract and import eitherthe json file (which I think is the source code) into the pulp app or the .pdx folder (which i think is the game executable if you actually have a playdate thing)

Or you can watch this playthrough video (warning, the sound is pretty knacked because of my inability to know how to record sound properly, so the noise cancelling software or whatever keeps eating all the static/beeps)

if anyone (homfrus?) wants to use any of the font tiles or the sprites or whatever feel free. I made an upper and lower case alphabet but the lowercase one is knacked so don't use that.

I have no idea how any of the coding works in this pulp thing but maybe that will be my next project so i can actually make a complete jet set willy game instead of this poor imitation

if i knew how to do anything with that it would make an extra unprovoked rising screaming noise that is so loud and wailingly awful you instantly burst into real life tears

Yup, I downloaded/extracted/imported the file into my game maker account, and it worked as sweet as a nut!

When I see coding-y stuff, I think of ActionScript 2, and then my eyes start squealing. :)

A rokit in spaace! Very nice! I like the directional animation frames on the player too.

What's yer thinking, Davuss? A straight out arcade game, or more of a narrative-led thang?

i was dreaming of resurrecting mine and trigs long abandoned space game from 2013 or whenever, but now i've woken up i'll probably just never do anything at all ever again due to the enormity of the task

also i don't know why, but youtube won't actually load any of my own videos for me, but only on the actual youtube site, and only my own videos but no one elses, and i can still see them if they're embedded on twitter or whatever. odd

I genuinely think that space game is the best thing I've ever made. I wish we'd finished it, it was brilliant.
If I get time (I have new job so no time) I will go back to it at some point and maybe remake it in a proper engine.

The PulpScript stuff was sufficient to have me bailing out of the game creator. :( I'd rather go down the Flash/Ruffle conversion/Newgrounds-hosted route. Ah well!
