I was obsessed with making music on the Amiga 500, and my tracker of choice was MED. There was also OctaMED, which could handle 8 channels, but at the cost of sample fidelity. I didn't really bother much with sample disks, as I got myself a Microdeal MasterSound sound sampler, and sampled the sweet bejeezus out of every record and cassette I could lay my hands on! :) That said, I think FredFish PD used to distribute disks full of sampled sounds.

That all sounds great thanks. I think I was was heading for ProTracker, as that appears to have gotten the most recent developments. I'll grab those sound disks too. I'll look for a sampler in the future. Though looks like I might be able to get one for about £15...

Good. I never played with that side of the Amiga when I was younger. Unfortunately my brother would always tell me what was boring and would never give me chance to explore

Has anyone listened to a super audio cd?

i just got a player, in the form of a sony blu ray player, 30 pouns. Also Brothers in Arms on SACD. I was not prepared for how utterly fucking amazing it sounds, it blew me away. Absolutely a step up from normal "red book" CD

I don't think so, no.

WIKI: The SACD format allows multiple audio channels (i.e. surround sound or multichannel sound). It also provides a higher bit rate and longer playing time than a conventional CD. An SACD is designed to be played on an SACD player.

Cool!

This is good! I don't know why, but it reminds me of this for some reason:

Nick Nicely - Hilly Fields

BTW - SACDs seem to have been replaced with "HD" audio downloads, like really high bitrate and sample rate FLACs and the like. It's a shame SACDs didn't take off, but streaming etc etc etc

i've got a small handful of 24bit flacs and wavs, but they sound nowhere near as good as the SACD. They seem to be pretty popular in Japan, a lot of remastering and production seems to be happening there.

The recent resurgence in physical media gives me a glimmer of hope that they'll make SACDs more popular, cheaper and more readily available. I feel like the world wasn't ready for them 20 years ago, but their time may come

Yeah, it's quite obscure but influenced some notable 80s musicians, most namely XTC who went and did an entire faux-60s album under an assumed name with the producer of the first Stone Roses album.

In a weird turn of events, I myself have (re)uploaded something that is effectively a follow up to the previous video

David Bowie - The Laughing Gnome (TOTP Bowie-less promo, 1973)

This has sort of accidentally fallen in my lap. It was uploaded by someone else earlier this month, I saved it off of Youtube, and then just now I went to see it online again and discovered it had been made private. Anyway, I've made it available once more.

Basically when The Laughing Gnome was re-released in 1973, Bowie understandably didn't want to go on TOTP to promote it. So they made this half-stop-motion promo with some sort of ogron standing in for Bowie. It was the source of some strange dimly recalled hauntological memories for decades until now, and I thought it was a shame for it to just disappear again after all that time, so here you go.

(Reverse Kyle is my "other people's things" channel on Youtube, btw. It's named after someone mistyping the name of a Yorkshire TV announcer...)

The b-side consists of a random 3 minute chunk of Ringu's Thomas The Tank Engine narration, over the top of a breakbeat Macca found on an Amiga floppy disk. :D
