Squirrels Dancing Among Elephants has a motorik groove that I thoroughly approve of. Yuss!vom wrote: ↑Fri Oct 22, 2021 10:09 am https://happyrobotsrecords.bandcamp.com/album/anaphora

I've managed to constantly forget to post this for two weeks now but
Happy (belated) 40th anniversary to David Stewart (the other one) and Barbara Gaskins' none-more-'80s deconstruction of "It's My Party" inexplicably topping the UK charts

I love that version, I think I was familiar with it before hearing the original. It's mad how adventurous the UK charts were in the early 80s - 1981 was the same year O Superman got to number 2, and a year later this was on Top Of The Pops.

Re: Moo Sick Therad
I came into this from the "Canterbury Scene"--a sort of small circle of musicians who ran along a parallel path of prog-psychedelic monsters of the late '60s but never quite lost that whimsy or took themselves so seriously as a Floyd or a Yes or a E/L/P
And I was amazed to see these artists who had spent a decade as technically proficient on the fringes of experimental jazz-prog-folk-neo-classical-avant-noise-everything also cross over onto the Top Of The Pops with a cover of a teenybopper classic like Dave&Barb there or everyone's favorite communist Robert Wyatt with the Monkees' "I'm A Believer" (take THAT, Smashmouth!). And then they'd go right back to aggressively experimental madness.
I was also surprised to discover that they had influenced huge pop acts in the UK like Tears For Fears (cf. their surprisingly faithful cover of Wyatt's Sea Song) but remained virtually unknown in the US.

Re: Moo Sick Therad
I'm rather taken with this indie ditty:
Coach Party: FLAG (Feel Like A Girl)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxyo5ZXoBgQ
But I really like it in conjunction with that Georgian-ish-period-set video. It's very basic, and some of the camera zooms put me in mind of an 80s-style pop video, but I just dig that song/video combo.

The duo did some other interesting/decent stuff too, including this, which I'm particularly fond of:An Skellington wrote: ↑Wed Oct 27, 2021 2:15 am I've managed to constantly forget to post this for two weeks now but

I love all their stuff. It's got such a perfect so-dated-its-timeless sound and Barb's voice always gives me goosebumps.

I kept getting the two of them confused for ages. I think there is another Dave Stewart who did music for Victor Lewis-Smith's programmes, or maybe it's the same one as above.

Wait, which English keyboardist Dave Stewart who formed a synth pop duo with his then-girlfriend as the singer is the other Dave Stewart?

I am reliably informed that the Puddle of Mudd cover of About A Girl is still available (but unlisted) on YouTube, should you wish to view it again.

The people who did "Sweet Dreams Are Made Of This" and all that.
(I think there was meant to be a photo in David's post but I cannot see it)
Re: Moo Sick Therad
actually i was being intentionally obtsue (although reading it back it also sounds weirdly aggressive, which wasn't my intention obviously).
I meant I'd never heard of this "its my party" dave stewart for some reason (even though i think i've heard that version of that song before probably)

Re: Moo Sick Therad
Didn't one of the Dave Stewarts rebrand themselves as Dave A Stewart?
There was also a Dave Stewart who played in goal for Leeds Utd, but I don't believe he had much input into 'There Must Be An Angel (Playing With My Heart).

I can't remember if I had before mentioned that, prior to the solo duo career with Barb, Dave "Party" Stewart was a member of EGG

You don't often hear skeletal electronic motorik used to flog gas boilers in the TV ad break, but Glow-Worm have got it covered:

Re: Moo Sick Therad
I was going to watch that beatles/let it be documentary but it turns out its not one documentary but 3 now, which are all 2 and half hours long, due to peter jackson trilogy madness, presumably
Re: Moo Sick Therad
oh wait they aren't all 2 and half hours long because one of them is 3 hours long
Re: Moo Sick Therad
i mean bearded ringo is incredibly sexy obviously but not 8 hours worth of incredibly sexy
Re: Moo Sick Therad
I thought I was watching The Beatles documentary, but it turned out to be a Ringu Starr drumming tutorial advert for something called Masterclass.

Got onto the second episode now where George comes back. Genuine belly laugh when Mal Evans brings in Magic Alex's prototype "invention" to show them. Can't quite work out why they kept him around-they clearly know he's a charlatan who is ripping them off.richschnauzer wrote: ↑Sat Nov 27, 2021 6:02 pmI watched an hour of the first episode so far. I haven't seen The Beatles documentary yet, but I have watched: Trackers - The Sound Of 16 Bit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=roBkg-iPrbw
Which had me regularly cooing throughout its 41 minute run time.
