Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
There are a lot more raymond chandler films than i ever knew
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
(and i knew there was a lot)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I like that the films cleverly remove his racism and homophobia by simply removing all black or gay characters entirely

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Thank you! It wasn't as fun to write as the 80s one but as usual I'm glad I did it.
Next up is 1991 and the films I have available are all extremely trashy so that should be good

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Look forward to reading it, sir!
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Like there was a year called 1991!
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
1991 was all done with smoke and mirrors.

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I remember people going on about how 1991 was a palindrome year at the time, and how 2002 would be the next one. I don't know why I remember that, but I do.

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I like how I couldn't hear anything in Oppenheimer, but apparently it's fine because Chris Nolan mixes for only high end cinemas and I guess fuck me for paying thirty quid for tickets to watch it on a slightly less massive screen

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I saw Mission Impossible at the BFI IMAX and it was crap, then I saw Barbie at a 40 seat community cinema and it was great
Stupid IMAX

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
i genuinely think christopher nolan's not only colour blind but also actually deaf
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Also - I've never seen it.

I was going to give IMAX another chance with Tron Legacy but they've "upgraded" it to 3D, with a "hey if you don't like this, chat to us" message that implies NO REFUNDS

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
i saw the trailer for that the other day and it looked abysmal
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
unsurprisingly
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
At least the running time (96 minutes) seems moderately sensible for such a premise.

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I've not yet seen the trailer so it may be rubbish for all I know, but I do like the fact it's one of the few movies that are allowed to made these days that's about some daft shite instead of [insert major IP here] or something

Just watched the trailer. It's made by Saban, the people behind Power Rangers?!

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
speaking of daft shite, I just watched The Sect (1991), an Italian horror movie which contains a scene where a rabbit operates a TV remote control
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I loved it, obviously
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
i think a rabbit operating an electrical device of some kind should be the plot of more movies
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I'm going to write: Shake N Vac - The Movie, and I'm going to write it on a giant carpet utilising the carpet freshener powder as 'dry ink'.
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Not a flim, but I watched the comedy-drama Private Schulz, starring Michael Elphick, a few days ago. It was pretty good in a quirky kind of way, and is definitely worth a watch (available on the Internet Archive).
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Here's another Tales of the Backlog article from me, this time about 1991. Where all movies are total trash, apparently.

I enjoyed that, Vomas - fine stuff! And I say that as someone who'd neither seen or heard of any of your film choices! Prime VHS era goodness! *thumbs up*

Yes, I like this a lot. Also I miss 1991, otherwise known as the year of "Leisure" by Blur
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
thank you all! I particularly enjoyed this one, because the films were all so weird and trashy
1970 up next

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Kelly's Heroes is 1970, I think. No other films were made or released in that year!
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I've never actually seen that, somehow

This is unacceptable!

Here's the 1970 article! Might be the last one for a while, I don't have much backlog stuff for the next couple of months

A jolly good write-up, Vomola!
And it's YOUR fault that I've now added Beyond the Valley of the Dolls to my 'must watch' list! *shakes fist*

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Sounds good, might have to watch it
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Great stuff, although does "(AA)" have something to do with either batteries or vehicle roadside rescue?
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
AA was basically what became a 15 in the mid 80s
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Ah, right-o! I had no idea!
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
now sure how appealing this is to Actually Read, but I took part in this discussion of the (first four) Alien movies, mostly so I could talk about the cat

This pleases me!
---------
Vom: In fact I’d go so far as to say there’s a certain mutual respect between the cat and the creature – one perfect organism recognises another?
Oliver: For sure, there’s that one moment where the alien and the cat are just hanging out. They seem chill with each other. Humans are lame!
-----------
A most enjoyable discussion! Hurrah!

If aliens were as good as cats, it would ask to be let back into John hurts chest again, then to be let out, then to be let in, then let out
