Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Excellent!
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
hooray. how wonderful
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I've never even heard of spanish dracula before
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
actually except for some of the 1970s spanish draculas where they just got english dracula in and hoped no one would notice everyone else was spanish (european)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cuadecuc,_vampir

A lovely article, this!vom wrote: ↑Tue Oct 31, 2023 3:58 pm Today I have a tale of two Draculas to share

Also: "...leading to skirmishes in the streets, divided families and the infamous Dracula Wars of the late 20th Century (or at least that’s how I remember it)."
That tickled me!
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
nope - this was pretty good but also definitely jordan peele's worst film (or least good film i suppose)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
yeah I agree, it didn't quite live up to the first two
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
there's a new Aki Kaurismaki film. I just went to see it and it was impossibly wonderful
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
hooray. with that new ghibli film out at christmas too this must be the best month ever for new films by totally retired forever directors
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
haha good point
Very excited for that one

There's a new 90 minute episode of The Famous Five, on at the end of this week on CBBC, which I'm planning to watch. However, the character of Aunt Fanny isn't white anymore, so that is the worst thing that has ever happened since the universe exploded into existence!

James Lance being Uncle Quentin has made me feel about 102
Cthulu bum you!
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Ha!
The opening titles are atrocious, and using modern music as the soundtrack to a 30s period drama should be a hanging offence!

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
It was okay / 6.5 out of 10. I didn't care for the baddie, the age difference between Dick and Julian was 'off', and the story was a bit too fantastical for my tastes, especially as an establishing episode.blombluss wrote: ↑Tue Dec 05, 2023 2:46 pm There's a new 90 minute episode of The Famous Five, on at the end of this week on CBBC, which I'm planning to watch. Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
they're seem to only be showing this at 2 (two) cinemas in the whole of essex. basildon cineworld (£13 a ticket) and the everyman in chelsmford (18 fucking poounds a ticket)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
so presumably i will not be going to see this new ghibli film at the cinema
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
unless ticket prices are cheaper after new year and/or also they show it elsewhere
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
18 pouns a ticket can fuck right off
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
It was pretty great. Basically Spirited Away, but as some sort of anxiety nightmare
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Also I read Shunas Journey the other day, a Miyazaki comic from the 80s (before ghibli, at the time he was writing the nuassicca comics and presumably making castle in the sky). This was excellent too, like a cross between nausicca (post apolyptic end of the world setting), princess mononoke (that prince boy and his elk or whatever it is he rides around on) and also weirdly bits of the earthsea one (that whole sequence with the slave traders in the city).
Plus lots of other weirdness, excellence

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I would like to read the nuasicca comic but it costs like £70 for the complete set these days
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Should have bought it in Waterstones that one time I saw it, for £40, in 2010
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I need to see the Boy and the Heron again because I messed up and saw it dubbed and I never like the dubs as much
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I saw Poor Things today and thought it was pretty incredible, extremely strange
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I would like to see that also
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
next goal wins - a taika waititi comedy about the american samoan team that lost 31-0 to australia that time. this might possibly be the most formulaic film ever, but it's just about nice and sweet and funny enough that that doesn't really matter too much.
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I liked the documentary very much indeed. I'm not sure whether I want to see this version or not
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I've never seen the documentary, although I do remember reading some articles about the team/their players a few years ago.
Anyway this was fine but I'll probably never think about it again

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
That be a good article, Sir! And I'd forgotten all about that awesome dance routine with Jerry (off of Vom & Jerry fame) until you mentioned it, so hurrah for that! *thumbs up*
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Thanks! Yeah it rules, that mouse has some moves!
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Maybe because it was basically those vic and bob elephant man sketches, interspersed occasionally with lots and lots of sex
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Also I think this was the first yorgos lanthimos film I liked the whole way through, rather than just liking the first half or so and then getting slowly less enthused as they meander on towards some slightly tepid ending
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Definitely my favourite also although I think I liked nearly all of The Lobster (memory may have melted)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I found the first section of the lobster so overwhelming I couldn’t really concentrate on the second half (a bit like full metal jacket I suppose)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Also there seems to be three of his films I’ve never seen or even heard of (his first two from the early 2000s, plus one called alps from more recent times)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I haven't seen Alps, I've heard Kinetta isn't very good, I didn't know there was an even earlier one
I haven't seen Killing of a Sacred Deer yet either

I’ve only seen dogtooth and the duchess.
I’m not very good at films

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Woman on the Run absolutely rules
that's the only one I've actually seen but The Naked Kiss was directed by Samuel Fuller and I have it sat on my shelf needing to get watched, I've heard good things about The Strange Love of Martha Ivers and DOA is a "poisoned guy must solve his own murder" plot (I think?) which means it basically inspired Crank

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I bet most of these are at least pretty good. Although from past experience of these box sets I bet at least a few of them will look / sound absolutely terrible
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
hooray thank you
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
also as long as they work without making the dvd player explode it should be okay. better than some of the absolute shit on amazon prime at any rate. one my parents were watching on ther e had hard coded portugeuese subtitles over the top, as if it'd been taped off tv on a vhs in the 80s or something
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
are you sure they're not philip k dick novels
