I like that the films cleverly remove his racism and homophobia by simply removing all black or gay characters entirely

Thank you! It wasn't as fun to write as the 80s one but as usual I'm glad I did it.

Next up is 1991 and the films I have available are all extremely trashy so that should be good

I remember people going on about how 1991 was a palindrome year at the time, and how 2002 would be the next one. I don't know why I remember that, but I do.

I like how I couldn't hear anything in Oppenheimer, but apparently it's fine because Chris Nolan mixes for only high end cinemas and I guess fuck me for paying thirty quid for tickets to watch it on a slightly less massive screen

I saw Mission Impossible at the BFI IMAX and it was crap, then I saw Barbie at a 40 seat community cinema and it was great

I was going to give IMAX another chance with Tron Legacy but they've "upgraded" it to 3D, with a "hey if you don't like this, chat to us" message that implies NO REFUNDS

At least the running time (96 minutes) seems moderately sensible for such a premise.

I've not yet seen the trailer so it may be rubbish for all I know, but I do like the fact it's one of the few movies that are allowed to made these days that's about some daft shite instead of [insert major IP here] or something

speaking of daft shite, I just watched The Sect (1991), an Italian horror movie which contains a scene where a rabbit operates a TV remote control

Not a flim, but I watched the comedy-drama Private Schulz, starring Michael Elphick, a few days ago. It was pretty good in a quirky kind of way, and is definitely worth a watch (available on the Internet Archive).

Here's another Tales of the Backlog article from me, this time about 1991. Where all movies are total trash, apparently.

now sure how appealing this is to Actually Read, but I took part in this discussion of the (first four) Alien movies, mostly so I could talk about the cat

This pleases me! :D

---------

Vom: In fact I’d go so far as to say there’s a certain mutual respect between the cat and the creature – one perfect organism recognises another?

Oliver: For sure, there’s that one moment where the alien and the cat are just hanging out. They seem chill with each other. Humans are lame!

-----------

A most enjoyable discussion! Hurrah!

If aliens were as good as cats, it would ask to be let back into John hurts chest again, then to be let out, then to be let in, then let out
