Do we have a games thread?
Look at this wonderfully melmed Terminator from the Master System version of Terminator 2

I haven't read the caption but that looks like Donkey Kong™ The Ape to me

Re: Games
I remember when we replaced our old beloved C64 with the new white version which came with a cartridge Terminator 2. I was so excited to put the cartridge in. And then I played and urgh.
Anybody want a peanut?
Re: Games
How many rival machines were around at one point? 13? 14?*
And peeps these days fret about whether to plump for the latest Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo box! Bah! Whatever you go for, you're going to play lotsa great games, be part of a large and well supported gaming eco-system, and not end up being lumbered with a Color Genie, Laser 350, or an Aquarius. Now THAT was decision-making pressure!
*Sinclair Spectrum / Oric-1 / Acorn Electron / Camputers Lynx / TI 99 4/a / Dragon 32 / Atari 800 / Commodore 64 / BBC Model B / Amstrad CPC 464 / Sord M5 / Tandy CoCo / Spectravideo SV 318/328 / Memotech MTX
Re: Games
I've never even heard of some of these. But I'm prepared to bet anything that the Camputers Lynx is the machine to take us into a brighter future
Re: Games
Ves, I expect it will do!
The Lynx was designed by a musician (John Shireff), so you'd expect it's sound capabilities to be good (a la Bob 'Ensoniq' Yannes creating the C64's SID chip), but alas, they were rotten.

I just finished Landlord Of The Woods

It's a short (1hr ish) cheap thing in which you apply to become the Landlord Of The Woods, and it's weird and charming and bizarre.

I am now playing Pacman 99, due to brain madness. I won a game.
Anybody who comes into the n3ta forest will be lost.
Everybody will become a Homfrus.

So, he's not here any more.

Re: Games
Ves. The weird thing is that I'm not great at normal Pacman and pretty good at normal Tetris, but I'm doing much better at Pacman 99 than Tetris 99.

I liked the Massive Multiplayer Mairo they offered, but then they pulled the plug on it.

I love(d) Mario 35, I was properly good at it too.
It was simultaneously hilarious and terrifying to be pootling around an average Mario level and then four Bowsers appeared.

I didn't like the Mario one at all for some reason, but I didn't realise they'd scrapped it. How odd.
I have installed the pac-man one but not tried it yet.

Accroding to the Bank Of Inglund's Inflation Calculator, those £25 games in 1987, would be, in todays roubles, selling for the equivalent of £72!?!

I won two more Pecmen 99. I might have to stop playing for a while, though, or I'll be glued to it.

Bless Smiths for their mention of educational software in the advert text. Like anyone really cares when that advert features four classic video games!

I've no idea how I missed this - Road Rash on the Amiga 500.

I like the fact that its not super speedy, and you can take everything in.
I really wanna play this now!

Re: Games
I seem to recall U.S. Gold being one of the first games companies to push the games sales prices up from £6/£7/£8 to the £9/£10 that they remained for the remainder of the 8 bit tape era.
My feeling at the time, and I think it was shared by a fair few was - WOW! American games will definitely be better than UK/Australian/European titles, and whilst some were (Epyx titles in particular), most them were just... 'decent'.
