Sam, The Sandown Clown

The Sandown Clown was a strange being encountered by two young children vacationing at Lake Common, Sandown, Isle of Wight (UK) in May of 1973. Following a sound like an ambulance siren, the children wandered across a footbridge over a stream, and met a curious, unidentifiable being that has been described as "a cross between a clown, a robot, and an alien". It was a shy, but friendly being, and spoke kindly to the children for almost half an hour before they returned to their parents. It seemingly vanished after the encounter, and has never been seen again.

It seems to possibly not be an actual advert, but some sort of student film that was perhaps made as an assignment. Most likely it came from the 80s, and they had access to the same font that Barclays used at the time (i.e., they had some Letraset sheets - the font is "Weiss", apparently). Here's the full thing.

The person who uploaded it to Youtube found it on an unlabelled U-Matic tape. U-Matic is an old semi-professional video format used for archiving stuff, and was obsolete not too long into the 80s. The equipment hung around various places for a while - How To Irritate People, the early proto-Python one-off show that featured John Cleese, Micheal Palin and Tim Brooke-Taylor (RIP) was partially or entirely saved for posterity as a U-Matic dub, I understand.

Ah, sorry about that. I tried my best to make it fairly low on resources, but the image textures probably pushed it to the limit. They're not massive but on older machines I'd imagine they'd struggle / fall over crying.
