One Candy Talking (i.e. Making Things On The Internet)
Re: One Candy Talking (i.e. Making Things On The Internet)
What was the name of that quickfire Y/T sketch show you made, Michelle? Tiny Horsey, was it?
Re: One Candy Talking (i.e. Making Things On The Internet)
Of course it was actually 'Funny Horsie'! Durr! I'm just working my way through them all, and most enjoyable they are too.
Re: One Candy Talking (i.e. Making Things On The Internet)

Re: One Candy Talking (i.e. Making Things On The Internet)
Ok, another attempt at a podcast. But it's a very different and much shorter one. Had to push past my lack of confidence in how my voice sounds right now in order to play certain parts, although there was still trickery involved. In an ideal world I'd get other people to do those bits. And be able to commit to voice training... anyway!

Also, I don't know why distributing a podcast is such a convoluted fuckabout. I'm tempted to upload the next ones just on Youtube and Internet Archive.

Re: One Candy Talking (i.e. Making Things On The Internet)
Decided it would be best to delete it. For posterity, though, here is what I deleted
The problem with Tropic Thunder is that its satire of race no longer works, and it didn't work when it came out. It's no good saying "Oh, but the movie is making fun of Robert Downey Jr's character" - there's plenty of people out there who, despite the intentions of the filmmakers, can filter out the satire and just laugh at the words and the make up. The main argument for this film is simply an excuse, and a particularly dimwitted one at that. Not to mention there are people of colour who disagree with all the hot takes and opinion pieces and Downey Jr himself.
Comedy dates and ages worse than other genres of entertainment. Just because you thought something was hot shit when you were in your teens / twenties doesn't necessarily mean its going to stand up later; and that goes double for anything comedy related. Anyway, I want to end on some jokes, to head accusations of humorless off at the pass:
How did Robert Downey Jr and Ben Stiller die?
Cocaine overdose!
What happened to RDJ's children?
Kidnapped by drug cartels and murdered!
In what state was Louis CK's corpse found?
So decomposed they had to use dental records to identify him!
Where is Patrice O'Neal now?
In hell, getting fucked by hentai tentacles!
On what charges has Ricky Gervais been arrested?
Cannibalism / mass shooting / operating sex cult / wire fraud!
Why do people find "Elf" funny?
Lead poisoning!
What disease has Bill Burr and Dave Chappelle just come down with?
...Necrotising fasciitis, also known as the "flesh-eating disease", is a rare and life-threatening infection that can happen if a wound gets infected. It needs to be treated in hospital straight away. Symptoms of necrotising fasciitis can develop quickly within hours or over a few days. At first you may have intense pain or loss of feeling near to a cut or wound (the pain may seem much worse than you would usually expect from a cut or wound); swelling of the skin around the affected area; flu-like symptoms, such as a high temperature, headache and tiredness. Later symptoms can include: vomiting and diarrhoea; confusion (finds "After Life" to be touching and beautiful); black, purple or grey blotches and blisters on the skin (these may be less obvious on black or brown skin). Necrotising fasciitis is very rare. The symptoms are similar to more common skin infections like cellulitis. Go to A+E if: you have a cut or wound that is much more painful than you would expect; you have a cut or wound and get symptoms like a high temperature, headache, tiredness and muscle aches; you have sudden confusion ("After Life is genius"); you have black, purple or grey blotches or blisters near a cut or wound.

Hurrah!
Also, if your dad's employer meant you got access to a Xerox Alto, then I'm never replying to you again!

Re: One Candy Talking (i.e. Making Things On The Internet)
We did not have access to an Alto, but this was our first proper home computer after a thing called a "NASCOM":
Xerox 820 (specifically the 820-II)
And for a while my dad brought home this, which we had for a couple of summer months in... 1990?
Xerox 6085 Daybreak
And this was the OS: Globalview
Also if you did particularly well it would put up an image that was a black and white scanned photo of a tiger sitting on some grass with the word "CONGRATULATION!" underneath

The Daybreak had an unofficial Tetris port which I remember playing, and on the side of the playarea under the NEXT SHAPE thing was a picture of an anime girl with long flowing hair. You could quite easily edit the pictures of the program, so naturally I took that image into the in-built paint package and made her baldGlobalView was an integrated “desktop environment” including word-processing, desktop-publishing, and simple calculation (spreadsheet) and database functionality.[1] It was developed at Xerox Parc as a way to run the software originally developed for their Xerox Alto, Xerox Star and Xerox Daybreak 6085 specialized workstations on Sun Microsystems workstations and IBM PC-based platforms.

Interesting stuff, Michelle. Ta!
Having access to decent computers, but machines that were just totally outside of yer typical 8 bit boxes that a fair chunk of the UK population owned/experienced.

Re: One Candy Talking (i.e. Making Things On The Internet)
Yeah. I was really lucky in that regard - while the only computer we had actually bought for ourselves was the ZX Spectrum +3 (the disk drive one, which I got for my birthday the year after it was released), my dad's job meant he was often bringing home random things. In fact, the Amiga I got around 1990 was originally a free example unit sent to Rank Xerox by Commodore UK, I think - an Amiga 2000, which was basically an A500 with a full meg of memory and a hard drive.
The people at Xerox mucked about with it a bit, and someone completely broke the hard disk, meaning it had to be run from floppies like an un-expanded A500. They were going to chuck it out, but my dad realised what it was (he'd seen me spending hours looking at those Amiga / Atari ST half page ads printed in all the mags back then, I forget the company) and was allowed to take it off their hands! I felt like Jammy Sod from Viz. Or whatever that character was called.
(Oh, and I did another podcast)

Yes, Silica Shop! They'd have one half of the page dedicated to an Atari ST 540 bundle, and the other would be an A500 one.

...Erm, Atari 520ST.
Re: One Candy Talking (i.e. Making Things On The Internet)
I wish I could remember important stuff, or stuff like the names of different flowers, but oh no, none of that sticks, but old Silica Shop adverts, and other things of that 'importance', they're forever lodged in my memory!

Re: One Candy Talking (i.e. Making Things On The Internet)
Thank you. Here's some more music / audio stuff since:
Netflix Comedy Special - a parody of an art form at a dead end
(Internal Screaming) - short instrumental hip hop beat tape with odd production
Trepann You (2023) - old song re-recorded, I'm happiest with this version now
u fucker - single sample from Freddy Got Fingered put through granular synthesis
Thrust Analysis - Hotel California - mangling of Hotel California, only two minutes long

Thank you both!
I put this album out in form of some software you can download from itch.io:

Kittydelic is an endlessly looping virtual record. It was inspired by the (now defunct?) Buddha Machine produced by FM3.
It runs on Windows and supposedly Linux as well. It might be runnable on a Mac if you do some oddness related to Linux subsystems (?) and Python, but I'm not 100% sure. Also you don't have to pay for it, it can be got for free, but I thought I would allow the chanceThe source photo used for the image in the software is "Blind cat in the sun" by Peter Janzen, which he released under a CC0 public domain license. It was part of a series of photos taken of an unknown street cat in Germany.
Kittydelic was created using Renpy.

Excellent. I love infinite loops
(Theoretically, in that I can't try it out due to only having an hundred year old mac)

Two new games:
Verty
The Slicer
The first is a basic arcade game (also BASIC-like in that other sense), the other is an absurdist text adventure. Both can be played in the browser.
Also there's this, which has gradually been leaking out all over various streaming places over the past week.
Oh, and I have a blog again.
