Could you improve the times of the relay races if you put a glass vial of Covid onto the baton, and the vial would crack open/release it after 9.5 seconds / 43 seconds, BUT the vial-cracking-open time would be reset once it was handed over to the next person in the team?

An Otimpics that shouldn't happen because of the resurgence and evolution of a plague that's we all knew we were nowhere near done with in a country that really doesn't want any of this shit but their government and the IOC don't care

This is absolutely brillant

The most recent disaster to hit the Tokyo Olympics is the discovery that Japanese musician Cornelius, who I previously liked quite a lot and who was in charge of doing the music for the opening ceremony, is some sort of absolute fucking psychopath

Cornelius resigns from Tokyo Olympics gig after history of school bullying resurfaces
Japanese musician Cornelius—real name Keigo Oyamada—resigned from the creative team for the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics after interviews from the mid-1990s resurfaced in which the composer proudly admits to brutally bullying classmates with disabilities for years. This comes days before the opening ceremony of the contentious Olympic Games. Many people questioned Oyamada’s role of overseeing the music for the Olympics and Paralympics.

In the ‘90s, the rock musician told several Japanese magazines that he tormented a mentally disabled boy from elementary school through high school. According to Rolling Stone, his actions included: forcing one of his classmates to eat his own feces, to masturbate in front of other students, and to walk around the school with his penis exposed. He also tied the student up, trapped him in a box, duct-taped a cardboard box around his head, and poured chalk dust inside.
The word "bullying" is frankly inadequate in this instance. I have two of his albums that I bought back in the late 90s / early 2000s, and I'm never playing those again. Don't want to even think about him again.

I watched rank outsider Anna Kiesenhofer of Austria win the women's cycling road race. It were brillent. She and others broke away from the main pack near the start, then three of them continued to break away until they had a big lead. Then Kiesenhofer broke away from the other two and built up an even bigger lead. It would appear that the main group (who caught up with 'the other two') didn't realise the Austrian was still ahead, so when the Dutch race favourite crossed the line in second place, and about 90 seconds after Kiesenhofer, she thought she'd actually won! :) It was thrilling stuff!

I'm watching the softball final at the moment, which is just baseball, but with under arm bowling, and i can't read their throws at all and am finding it endlessly confusing trying to work out when they're actually going to release it or even in what direction or anything its going to go

its like the whole motion is in reverse or something

I love the BMX racing at the Olympics, but I reckon they need to adopt more of the 80s retro stylings, so p'raps all the riders should wear Walkmans, and the races should end with this happening:

Also the weirdest thing about the bmx (at least at previous Olympics) is that all the rounds up to the final have multiple legs, so that the best people go through. Then the finals a one off and it's total luck when they all ram each other off at the first corner in their desperation to take the lead

I've never heard of that, is it like what was known around here as 'Knockout'?

1 goal
1 goalie
Between 4 to however many outfield players - whoever scores goes through to the next 'round' and leaves the pitch, the last remaining player gets knocked out. And then the whole thing starts up again, and so on.
