Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Late 90s UK Amazon e-commerce rival 'Jungle' would've never purchased Bond. They'd have purchased the 'Doctor...' franchise films starring Dirk Bogarde and James Robertson Justice.
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
A Real Pain - David Thair and Vom Vorton travel to Poland to remake Old Joy for some reason
4/5 - would probably watch again

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I also watched A Zed And Two Noughts yesterday, a 1980s Peter Greenaway film starring Jim Davidson for some reason
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
i don't know why he was in it but he was
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
needless to say he stunk up every scene he was in, the useless wanker
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Peter Greenaway's greatest crime

The ending of this was so blatantly stolen from Old Joy that it left me really confused. I liked it otherwise though
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
This is still the only Peter Greenaway film that I've seen for some reason even though I really liked it. I don't remember Jim Davidson being in it but maybe subconsciously I did notice and that's why I never got around to watching anything elsedng wrote: Thu Feb 27, 2025 5:48 pm I also watched A Zed And Two Noughts yesterday, a 1980s Peter Greenaway film starring Jim Davidson for some reason

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
"The Falls" is a really good Peter Greenaway film. It's actually formatted like loads of different short films strung together, except it's got a narrative all the way through it, about some sort of weird event that caused a minor cataclysm in the 70s and now loads of people are sort of like birds. It's good, I liked it, and J. Davidson is nowhere to be seen in it
A shorter thing he did in the same year (1980) is this documentary, which I think I've linked to before but I like it so much I'm going to link to it again

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I've not seen that one. I've seen drowning by numbers (this is brilliant); the cook the thief his wife her lover (also pretty great); the belly of an architect (pretty good); and the pillow book (okay)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
looking on wikipedia it appears he's still making films, its just no ones mentioned them since the 90s for some reason
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Prospero's Books looks amazing
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Apparently it was French produced and Japanese funded
and there are games based on it. Like The Book of Watermarks on PS1, which was JP only. Also a Taiwanese exclusive one for DOS with no translatable name.

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I know these things because a streamer I watch is obsessed with Peter Greenaway and once got banned for showing a trailer for Prospero's Books which featured background micro peens, because it was supposed to depict a moving renaissance painting.
So now he likes to claim he got banned for trying to teach his viewers about Shakespeare

here is stream of Taiwanese game

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
This streamer also regularly plays adult japanese adventure games on PC-88, PC-98 and Windows 95 and DOS, that contain gratuitous naked animes and sexytime, for which he has never been banned
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Excellent
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I've now shook this vibe out of my system, and the last two films I watched were enjoyable 110 minute sing-y romcoms Pitch Perfect and Pitch Perfect 2. Both directed by Peter Greenaway. Probably.blombluss wrote: Mon Feb 17, 2025 3:08 pm The last two flims I watched were Easy A and She's The Man - both enjoyable 90 minute-y teen romcoms. I think an intervention might be required.![]()
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Another day, another romcom. The remake (and role reversal) of Overboard. It's nowhere as good as the Kurt Russell / Goldie Hawn orig, but I liked it.
And I'll keep the fact that I also watched Pitch Perfect 3 to myself...

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Also about 2/3rds of the way through it, there's a scene that if it doesn't bring you to tears, then you must have a heart of stone!blombluss wrote: Sun Mar 02, 2025 3:21 pm Another day, another romcom. Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Are you watching Christmas films in March, David? Do we need to stage an intervention?
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
The time for an intervention has long passed, Vomola! :p
Also - just watchin' that particular Chrinbuss film, as it sounded nuts!

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Christmas films should be banned in spring
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Also in summer, autumn, winter
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
memoir of a snail - animated film by the man who made mary and max, where a girl narrates her life which is a life of absolutely unrelenting exponentially increasing misery

it reminded me of my sister by the tindersticks

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
which was a bit much
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
also the voice of "headmaster" was done by luke elliot
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
which along with watching whatever film it was that "tom morton" did the voice for, now makes me hope that one day i will have seen animated films with everyone from n3ta providing one minor voice role somewhere at some point
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
The one "I" did a voice for was called Long Way North I think
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Or something like that
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
And then "I" was also in The Substance

n3ta's greatest and most versatile acting talent ever
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
(so far)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I watched the 1989 horror film 'Society' vesterday.
I really didn't care for it, and I think I'll stick to inane rom-coms from now on.

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Yesterday I watched I'm Still Here, a film about a woman whose husband is arrested/murdered by the fascist government in brazil in the 70s, and it was astonishingly good, almost overwhelming so
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
so i would recommend that if anyones looking for something to watch
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
another good film i saw recently was the universal theory, a sort of science fiction hitchcock pastiche that i thought was really brilliant, strangely moving

and also all the long nights, which was some low key japanese film about a boy who has panic attacks and a girl who has pms induced anxiety break downs, and they work in a small office making miniature planetarium projectors for schools, and become friends, and that's it really.
it was just weirdly nice seeing a film about nice people being nice to each other to be honest

I've been going to the cinema a lot more this year because I can go on the tram and also I've made some new Cinema Friends and they are cool and I like them
this week I saw Sister Midnight with one of them, which was kinda weirdly paced but also unusual and good, and then Lost Highway with another one of them which is slowly becoming one of my favourite David Lynch films
I'm going to see Flow tomorrow but I've failed to enlist any company for that one
