Re: Games
that boss did click in the end, but it was still bloody hard even then. equipping that fire bell thing helps a little bit as it reduces some of its later attacks to 1 instead of 2 damage, but thats about the only advice i have
Re: Games
ah right yeah, I didn't think about using that. I've gone off to explore some other ridiculously difficult areas first "as a treat"

Re: Games
I've just unlocked the double jump, 40 hours into the game
Re: Games
hooray. i finally did it.dng wrote: Fri Sep 26, 2025 6:27 pm i've got to wjat i think is definitely the final boss in silksong now, and it's so infuriatingly impossible i've decided to sort all my films into alphabetical order instead
things i did before i did it because it was so dispiriting:
aforementioned dvd sorting
shelf sorting
some filing
tedious accumulation of things security certification stuff
rearranged a dentist appointment
used the internet to find the locations of the last few items in silksong i hadn't got (a couple of weapons and some spoooooooools)
and then used the internet again to find all the monsters i had never killed in the game so i could fill up the diary of monsters with them
and then went about tediously killing enough of them over and over again because just killing them once isn't enough apparently
then spent all my money on the bits of metal you need to replenish your tools and weapons when you've inevtiably died on the boss again
then i did it second time and it was easy and that was that
Re: Games
140 hours is a bit much for a metroidvania really (especially when searching a map that huge for the last few collectables that could be anywhere really), but at least 100 hours of that was pretty good rather than endlessly infuriating so that's a pretty good ratio i reckon
Re: Games
I'm coming up to 48 hours and I've just beaten the Cogwork Dancers, which was an excellent boss fight. The music in the Choral Chambers and the Cogwork Heart is so lovely

Re: Games
I still haven't quite finished Spirit Tracks, though I'm not far off (one or maybe two 'main game' bits to go, plus collecting some rabbits and whatever bits of train I really want), but I've started Skyward Sword (on the Switch) as my sister was visiting and wants to watch me play it. I made a hilarious pig's ear of the knight qualification race (jumped off the flying platform, drew my sword instead of summoning my giant bird, and had to be rescued before I fell to my death) although I still somehow won it so it must have been rigged. All in all I was really enjoying it - right up to the boss of the first temple. I died and died and died and died, getting angrier and angrier with the stupid swordfighting controls that Nintendo clearly thought were a great idea without actually playtesting them. It must have been an absolute nightmare on the Wii. Anyway, I eventually beat the boss, but all my enthusiasm has evaporated. My sister tells me that paradoxically the first boss is the hardest boss and it gets much more playable from this point, but I think the only thing that will make me go back to it is the fact that you can use an in-game toilet. P-p-p-paper, please!

Re: Games
also i never finished spirit tracks. i played all of it and even enjoyed some of it, then died on the final boss and never went back to it because it was too depressing to attempt again (it probably wasn't even that hard but it was kind of terrible instead)
Re: Games
Spirit Tracks is one of the only Zelda games I've never played. Along with that one that was only on the 3DS as I never had a 3DS
Re: Games
I enjoyed Skyward Sword but never played it until the Switch and I think they changed some of the things that annoyed people on the Wii?
Re: Games
I need to finish Silksong before Microsoft puts the game pass price up because fuck that
Re: Games
Me too I think, apart from the NES ones, but I wasn't born then so I feel like I'm exempt. I didn't even know there was a 3DS one!?!?vom wrote: Tue Oct 07, 2025 10:13 am Spirit Tracks is one of the only Zelda games I've never played. Along with that one that was only on the 3DS as I never had a 3DS
Also I thought Skyward Sword was pretty rubbish.
I'm currently playing Tears of the Kingdom. I like it, but I do still sort of miss the smaller, more linear ones from the N64 / Game Boy era. I feel like there's so much to do and so many people to talk to in ToTK that I just can't be bothered to do half of it.
On the other hand I really enjoyed the Yiga Clan quests, mostly because the boss fight music was so catchy.

Re: Games
I've got to the point in Spirit Tracks where I'm a bit annoyed about having to travel round on the train and get bushwhacked by bloody idiot monsters when all I want to do now is catch rabbits and finish the game off. But I'll try to finish it in the next week or so. I don't remember where the 3DS one comes in the sequence, but I've got it somewhere and will get to it eventually, hopefully.

I finally finished the original game a couple of years ago when they released the cool "game and watch" version, which also includes Zelda 2, which I will probably never finish but have played a bitGravid wrote: Thu Oct 09, 2025 7:46 pm Me too I think, apart from the NES ones, but I wasn't born then so I feel like I'm exempt.

Re: Games
I've been playing manifold garden today, some puzzle game where you have to rotate gravity around to solve fairly simple switch puzzles (might get more difficult later I suppose). It reminds me a bit of the witness really, possibly due to the way it's giving me wild motion sickness and now I feel ill

Re: Games
I think I spent about 90 pouns on Elite Dangerous, which was worth it for a game I barely played.

Re: Games
Adjusted for inflation, probably the $60 i spent on a special edition of Command and Conquer: Tiberium Sun, which also came with a soundtrack CD i never listened to and a pewter figurine that has inevitably gotten lost amidst our numerous moves.

Re: Games
oh wait, no. I paid £80 for Chrono Trigger in 2002 or 2003, US version complete in box with all the guff. Simply because I wanted to play it. It is worth about 10 times that now
