thanks banks
thanks banks
i recently had to change banks because of reasons (sainsburys bank closed down and was bought by natwest). so now instead of having an account name and a password and maybe a verification phonecall i now have:
account number: (massive random long string of numbers)
password: (long string of letters and passwords)
pin: (4 numbers)
the 4 number pin thing has to be input in a random order (3rd digit then 2nd digit then 4th digit then 1st digit, or whatever), too, which is like one of those irritating zelda switch pulling puzzles that never really make sense
then to get any money out of the account at all, i had to order another card (16 digit number) and a card reader (excellently archaic looking technology) and then input another pin (4 digits) and then input an 8 digit card from the website into the card reader which generates another 8 digit number which i have to put back into the website
all so occasionally i can transfer £10 or less to pay off this months credit card (not transferred to natwest)

Re: thanks banks
i'm surprised nintendo didn't adopt this system to replace friend codes
Re: thanks banks
i wonder how long it takes for the card reader battery to go flat
Re: thanks banks
instantly rendering me unable to pay my credit card, triggering the bailiffs to come round to reclaim whatever book it is i've bought this month
Re: thanks banks
I didn't realise they still did those card readers! I haven't had to use mine in years, maybe because I'm "on" the "app"?

Re: thanks banks
Very occasionally I still have to use mine, typically if I'm setting up a new payee. Otherwise I go along fairly comfortably, although I am being asked for two-factor authentication every time I use this (still quite new) laptop. I must have internalised the National Westminster process so thoroughly that it no longer discombobulates me.
My card reader's still working and I must have had it for over 10 years at this point. I assume those things last basically forever.

Nationwide still insist on a card reader, too. It's awful. I much prefer paying for things with my face.
Also a new, completely chaotic charity shop opened near me recently, and for some reason they had one of these for sale at a low, low price. Bargain!

excellent
Re: thanks banks
I had more than one for some reason but I think I chucked them away when I moved because I haven't had to use one in probably 10+ years
Re: thanks banks
Hooray. That's the card reader I've got. Maybe I should buy that one too just in case

Just in case I accidentally open a new NatWest account

I like Credit Card machines that tone your arm muscles.
