i saw the shining at the cinema today, and it was the american version they showed for some reason instead of the stanley kubrick approved european version, so there was 20 minutes of extra stuff i'd never ever seen before.

extra stuff;

a long slightly boring scene near the start where danny iand wendy get interviewed by a doctor
a mid length incredibly boring scene near the middle where scatman crothers hires a snow plow
a very short scene near the end where some skeletons are having a tea party

The American version is the one I'm familiar with, as it first got shown on ITV around 1989 because the American distributors got confused and sent their version by mistake

And his N-word usage, but that might be why they brought the rating down :(

first love - fun takashi miike film about a shit amateur boxer getting caught up in loads of wild yakuza shenanigans with a pretty great and occasionally didgeridoo based soundtrack

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6PagF_ZHUJk

also i looked takashi miike up and this was his 103rd movie apparently (and it came out 6 years ago so no doubt now he's made another 15 or something since)

I attended the most recent Mystery Movie Marathon at the Prince Charles Cinema, which ran from 10:30 on Saturday to roughly 8am the following morning. I tagged all the films on my Letterboxd, and I think I was the only person who stayed fully awake for the whole thing

D.A.R.Y.L is a mediocre, sometimes touching, and somewhat ridiculous 80s SF-ish kids film, and I rather enjoyed it. 7/10.

WARNING: Contains Pole Position footage!!! :D

This week I have watched two vampire films.

1 - lips of blood - ultra low budget soft porn 70s French exploitation nonsense, terribly acted and plotted, about nothing except that the director thinks vampires are incredibly sexy probably, yet incredibly atmospheric and weird and sort of unsettling all the way through

2 - sinners - massive budget no nudity 2020s important American nonsense, about racism and music and culture and history and colinalism, very well acted, great music, excellent for most of it, but not unsettling in the slightest and also all the atmosphere seeps away by the end because for some reason the end is both a rushed load of old piss and really long and oddly dragged out

There are 28 Will Ferrell movies?!?!

So by my reckoning that means that Will Ferrell has appeared in nearly 37% of all films that have ever been made! :o

i enjoyed Talladega Nights and Wankerman and Step Brothers, but I think that was due to the other people in them, like John C Reilly, Gary Cole, sacha baron von cohen and the woman news reader (Tits McGee) etc
