I've now watched the first three episodes.blombluss wrote: Sun Jan 11, 2026 3:53 pm Some company called Peacock have turned one of my favourite flims (The 'Burbs) into a telly show starring Jack Shitehall. I am appalled and disgusted and I will have to watch the programme so I can continue to be appalled and disgusted.
It's watchable in a 'meh' kinda way, so I think I'll watch a couple more.
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I've watched it all now.
I liked it, but they shouldn't bother making any more of them.

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I saw a trailer for that new Steven Spielberg film that's a kind of riff on Close Encounters. Said trailer gave away a lot of the plot because that's apparently the way it all works, but still it seems like an interesting story... but the actual look of it is horrible. The direction and all is fine as you'd imagine, but visually, in terms of the aesthetics and overall style, it's all been processed and shat up to the point where it looks more like an advert for a car or a bank or something than a feature film. For some reason loads of things all look like this and it makes me a bit queasy. There's no reason for shot-on-digital productions to look so shit, it's just down to the weird priorities of cinematographers, who all believe that making things look like an ad is the only way things should be done
And relax
And relax
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
The weird thing is that loads of relatively cheap films look really amazing these days, presumably because there's just an astonishing variety of ways to shoot a film and make it look however you want to make it look now if you actually want to.
but then they're all not-hollywood, not-netflix films, probably

Today I watched scarlet, an anime by the man who directed wolf children and a bunch of other stuff, which asks the question: what if, instead of being a bit of a whiny twat, hamlet was a pink haired warrior princess from fire emblem, and had to fight through hell to the gates of heaven to have their bloody revenge. And also falls in love with a paramedic from present day Japan along the way
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
4/5 (because there was a really big dragon)
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Did it also have Rosencrantz and Guildenstern in it, as purple/pink haired animes?

Her father had been an engineer and she was also continuously 'playing with forbidden things', all of which contributed to her designated position.

But only if you can flawlessly sing California by Joni Mitchell.
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
i watched the new peaky blinders film. the plots even stupider than ever, every single character in it is a dismal moron, and it doesn't even seem to remember any of the previous serieses of the show or the characters or anything really, and makes the last series seem even more of a superfluous pointless waste of time than it already was anyway.
but cillian murphy's in it so its pretty good regardless (like every other episode of peaky blinders, i suppose)

I watch the same romcom over and over again.
This one was called Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates, and like all the rest it was a solid 6.5/10, but I enjoyed it.

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I know 'film reaction' YouTube vids are the devil's work, but watching the faces of youngsters (anyone under 30) as they 'first-time-watch' Monty Python and the Holy Grail, has pleased me. The combination of utter bafflement and amusement is a nice emotional combo.
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I keep getting youtube recommendations of amelicans reacting to british things, whether it's comedy sketches, food, "freedom", roads, lack of racism in wartime pubs,
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I've watched a video on the latter, and it also covered the Battle of Bamber Bridge between white and black American soldiers in the UK.
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I'd like to watch a film, but I'm too busy watching clips of Bob Newhart on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
Makes a change from Craig Ferguson I suppose
Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I watched some Craig Ferguson chat show clips, and he's okay... I guess?

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I saw a film called COMBAT SHOCK at The Nickel cinema in Clerkenwell. It was the director's cut, I think. I really enjoyed it! According to Wikipedia the edited theatrical release came out to "a mixed to negative critical response, with many critics expressing discomfort with its bleak tone and graphic content".
There was a pre-recorded Q+A beforehand and the director explained that he was very inspired by Eraserhead, and you can very much see that in the film. In fact it's basically bits of Eraserhead mixed in with a post-Vietnam social commentary drama
Anyway it was very bleak and good, and I was particularly pleased that there were no adverts or anything before the film. Instead they played loads of music all by the proto-synth punk duo Suicide beforehand, which was fitting
Although I should warn everyone that there is a bit where someone's racist grandfather yells the N-word, and then the N-word is made to go all echoey

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I quite like Legally Blonde, which has now been turned into a mediocre TV series prequel. It's not very good, and it undermines the backstory of Reese Witherspoon's character in the film, but I rather like it.
I have terrible taste.

Re: Motion Pictures (that anuse me)
I tried the new Masters of the Universe flop film vesterday, but I got bored after 20 minutes, so I ended up watching RLM's Half In The Bag review of it, instead, which was fun, and probably more fun than continuing with the film.
