Soccerball Therad
Re: Soccerball Therad
I'm pleased for Brentford, and they play some nice stuff, too. I do worry about them getting tonked on a regular basis in the Premier League, though.

inevitably
except against spurs and west ham of course

Re: Soccerball Therad
Congrats to Chelsea - I thought they deserved the win, and did so by winning the tactical battle. And if Werner could kick a ball properly, they'd have been at least 2-0 up by half time.
Re: Soccerball Therad
Are Everton raising a quizzical eyebrow at Carlo's departure or not? I've got a feeling they might not be too disappointed at him leaving.

Groucho Marx - time traveller!
Re: Soccerball Therad
Gawd, Inglaterra are mediocre, aren't they? (Why am I shocked about this? I don't know!)
Re: Soccerball Therad
Turkey vs. Italy - can't wait! Honestly!
Re: Soccerball Therad
The best bit of that half was when they put the ball in a little car and drove it to the centre spot
Re: Soccerball Therad
Also the occasional glimpses of lovely vialli on the Italy bench
Re: Soccerball Therad
The second half was better than the first, I thought. They impressed me, did Italy. Mancini's jacket also impressed me - it were lovely!
Re: Soccerball Therad
Mancini is a very handsome man now he's old
Re: Soccerball Therad
They didn't seem to have the car today. Rubbish
Re: Soccerball Therad
Well this is the genuine worst thing ever to have happened. I can't believe they're still showing it instead of returning to the studio
Re: Soccerball Therad
I'm glad i chose this as the first match i've watched for ages
fucking hell
he ran to ball, and just collapsed, and looked instantly dead

Re: Soccerball Therad
I was at a match at southend twenty years or so ago now where the ref collapsed and died like that and I still find it a bit harrowing thinking about it
Re: Soccerball Therad
jesus
Re: Soccerball Therad
fucking horrible
Re: Soccerball Therad
Looks like he's alive
thank fuck.
First Grosjean, then this.

Re: Soccerball Therad
Well that's very good news. I genuinely thought he'd died

Just like I thought Grosjean was. And just like then i am welling up.
Re: Soccerball Therad
Like everyone else has said, it was extremely distressing to see. And using the defibrillator on him, so you saw his legs twitch, was just fucking horrible. Oh God.
And how on earth all the players managed to focus themselves to finish the match later, I'll never know.

Re: Soccerball Therad
England were quite good. Which was pretty baffling
Re: Soccerball Therad
I only saw the first half due to idiotic planning, but the first 15 minutes were really impressive, followed by revert to quite dull
the Ukraine / Netherlands match was great!

Re: Soccerball Therad
For me, England veered between quite decent actually and meh, so overall, I was quite pleased with our performance, especially for our first match.
England will be fine until they play one of the top teams (Italy/France/Germany/Spain), then we'll come unstuck defensively, imo.

Re: Soccerball Therad
It was indeed.
I felt a touch sorry for Ukraine - they showed spirit and flashes of skill. I reckon they'll beat North Macedonia and Austria, and qualify in second place.

England will be fine until their match is shown on itv
Re: Soccerball Therad
Good to see that Spain are still an oppressively dull team who are good at passing but nothing else
Despite replacing every member of the team

I put the Copa America on looking for something more exciting but it's so weird going back to the empty stadiums

Re: Soccerball Therad
Also that Spain game was rubbish. Stupid boring Spain
Re: Soccerball Therad
spain are excellent the problem is every team who play spain are frightened of them so they just adopt the 10-0-0 formation, which can make for dull matches!
That said... not giving Adama Traore 30 minutes to run like a loon around the pitch, was pretty dumb. They needed to try summat different, summat less subtle and more sledgehammer-y, against the Swedes.

Re: Soccerball Therad
i thought germany were absolute rubbish tonight. at least the ref seemed to want them to win i suppose, but it wasn't quite enough
Re: Soccerball Therad
also i'm not quite sure what the point of var is if it can't spot that someone has bitten a player when that player even tells the linesman that he'd been bitten but the linesman just tells him to go away instead of checking
Re: Soccerball Therad
I thought it was a really interesting and tense match so I'm glad the commentators were on hand to tell me that it was, in fact, rubbish
Re: Soccerball Therad
also a shame that the three goals were a banger of an own goal and two smashing offsides I guess
Re: Soccerball Therad
yeah, i thought it was pretty great. clive tyldsley simply destroys everything he touches (commentates on)
Re: Soccerball Therad
also i thought he was dead (sacked) but it seems he will never die (be sacked)

Re: Soccerball Therad
Lovely Wales, terribaal penalty, lovely non-time wasting corner action at the end, too.
Would support again.

Only Italy can stop France, imo.
Re: Soccerball Therad
At what number is Gattuso on Spurs's 'new manager' shopping list? 8th choice?
Re: Soccerball Therad
How can Belgium be ranked #1 in the FIFA listings with their Wigan Athletic-style defence?
Good fun to watch, mind!

Re: Soccerball Therad
I think them and Holland have been the most fun to watch so far, though I can't see either of them winning it
Re: Soccerball Therad
They're not boring enough to win international football tournaments
Re: Soccerball Therad
Italy it is then
