The Netherlands were almost England-against-Iceland-esque in their capitulation after going down to 10 men. The Czechs, like Austria (nearly!), played above themselves, had a solid defensive plan, and carried it out extremely well.

I was glad Belgium won. Portugal came out in the second half to rough Belgium up, and did for De Bruyne and Ehazard, and despite not playing particularly well, showed a fair amount of defensive grit, which isn't something you associate with them.

Portugal are somehow always tedious and filthy, despite having an astonishing amount of attacking talent that they seem determined to use as little as possible, because fighting, diving and moaning are much more fun

The last time they were exciting was euro 2000. But then they ended that by giving away a golden goal penalty and getting their entire team sent off as they complained for twenty minutes before zidane could take it, and obviously got addicted to general continuous skullduggery

The Spain match was incredible. I wasn't sure whether to watch this other one as surely it can't live up to the first game. But now Switzerland are winning so who knows!
