Re: The weeping thread
I saw a bit of one of those panel shows from a couple of years ago, where he'd got quite ill and was still convelasing (sp) during filming. He sounded very frail, in a way that reminded me of Spike Milligan during his final years. He'd got better since, though, so this is an immense shock.
Re: The weeping thread
Oh noes!
As stated above, I was under the erroneous impression that Lock had got over the worst, so I'm gobsmacked, to be honest.
RIP

A damn fine drummer, and tbh, I didn't expect him to be the first to pass from The Rolling Stones.

Brian Jones decomposes offendedly in your direction sirrah
Her father had been an engineer and she was also continuously 'playing with forbidden things', all of which contributed to her designated position.
Re: The weeping thread
Yeah, soz, I meant passed away of natural causes.
Re: The weeping thread
Lee 'Scratch' Perry gone.
A true innovator, lunatic, and giver of one of the best interviews I've ever read in the NME. Hint: It was nuts.

Re: The weeping thread
I remember that NME interview. For about an hour he reduced Steven Wells to a meek, bewildered observer with his general Lee-Scratch-Perry-ness. At one point he drew attention to the CD copies of his music he'd glued to his shirt, so that the reflection of the silver sides would "possess" (I think?) walls and doors with the energy of his productions. He also thought Johnny Rotten was in The Clash, and refused to be corrected on the matter.

excellent

Oh man! :''( He truly was the Father of British home computing, whether he wanted to be or not.
Re: The weeping thread
Elon Musk became the world's richest man by building electric vehicles that no one has ever bought while poor old Clive Sinclair got laughed at for thirty years until he was dead
Re: The weeping thread
which hardly seems fair
Re: The weeping thread
That's a good point.
A lot of Sinclair's ideas were before their time or just not very practical, but the guy just loved trying to make new stuff in innovative and temptingly priced ways - we need more like him.

Unfortunately all we're allowed now is more Alan Sugars
Re: The weeping thread
Troo. Just imagine what The Apprentice would've been like with Sirclive rather than Siralan. The contestant teams would've been required to conceive, develop, and display electronic/electro-mechanical gadgetry - it would've been great!

Re: The weeping thread
And now I'm pondering what the 80s UK home computer market would've been like without Sinclair.
The Vic-20 and the Texas TI 99/4a would've hung around for far longer. Maybe Acorn wouldn't have released the Electron, and the home computer market would've been split between the Commodore 64, the Atari 8 bits, and the MSX machines? And the Beeb would've still been too expensive for most people!

Re: The weeping thread
It would have been Dragon Data's time
Re: The weeping thread
And chasing the dragon would've been a reference to Welsh computing dominance rather than heroin!

Available in John Menzies, Rumbelows, Smiths, and Boots. Also Harrods
Re: The weeping thread
Lovely advert, Rich.
I think his passing has affected me a bit more that I would've expected. And I'm a bit defensive about him, too. The likes of us having a bit of a joke about some of his products is fine, because we understand and respect his importance/legacy, whereas some dick saying, "Hur! Hur! C5! What a div!", makes me want to tell them to fuck right off.
Interesting really, how certain things or events make you feel, and possibly not in the way you'd imagine.
