Re: Games
the Top Gun: Maverick update is out now for MSFS. I've always wanted to be Tom Cruise, so I'm going to give it a go.

Re: Games
I enjoyed it too but I was too busy thinking about Resident Evil 4 to comment previously
Re: Games
I've reached the bit with the horrible shuddering monsters where you have to use the infrared scope to kill them, it's too scary

Re: Games
I tried to buy Resident Evil 4 when it came out but they didn't have it so I got Killer 7 instead and don't regret that at all
Re: Games
I really liked Killer 7 too, although unlike Resident Evil 4 I don't ever feel the need to play it again
Re: Games
Killer 7 had better music though

Re: Games
I nearly gave up on it on the first level, I absolutely hated it. Then I tried it one more time and bloody loved it.
Re: Games
I'd be up for playing it again now actually. Put it on Switch you cowards

Re: Games
Those massive daft boxes of Hock Wah Yeo are so great. It's a shame we can't have them again due to lack of suitable "brick and mortar" shops, environment
Re: Games
for some reason i am playing final fantasy 12 again (although the ps4 remake this time rather than the ps2 original). anyway it's exactly the same game, except they fixed the worst aspect of it (the levelling/license system meant all the characters were basically the same so there was no point switching between your active ones and your idle ones in combat or at any point at all ever, really, but now you assign your characters various roles so they're all differentiated slightly into your standard rpg fighters/magicians/other sort of fighter/other sort of magician type roles).
its still absolutely tedious
its still absolutely tedious
Re: Games
I've still never really played a final fantasy
Re: Games
I finished replaying Resident Evil 4 the other day and it's still absolutely fucking brilliant, although the jetski bit at the end annoyed me slightly because it requires a totally different set of skills to the entire rest of the game and I always think that's a slightly irritating way to end a game.
I'm playing the extra stuff now, I'm not sure I ever did Separate Ways before because it wasn't on the Gamecube version, so I'm doing that first. I'm pretty sure I played Assignment Ada at some point but I don't really remember it. And I remember Mercenaries being good fun although I was never that good at it

A surprising crossover between the games thread and the weird old TV things:
The game in question
The game in question
Re: Games
I never finished Resident Evil 4 on the GameCube because it all got too tense for me and I gave up. Then I tried to buy it on the Wii but ended up getting scammed or something and the game never turned up. So I have now bought it on the Switch and maybe I will play it all the way through this time. One day. Maybe.
Re: Games
I finished Separate Ways and also played Assignment Ada this weekend. Separate Ways is such a fun idea, seeing the same plot through the eyes of a supporting character. It gets really good in the later chapters when it branches out more from the main story. Assignment Ada is not as clever but still quite fun. I'm going to play some Mercenaries but I felt a bit Resident Eviled out, so I've started playing Celeste instead
Re: Games
Shredder's Revenge does look lovely
Re: Games
You can see the love they put into it. So many joyous moments
Re: Games
Celeste
just finished the last level (although as usual these days there's a ton of bonus stuff)
what a lovely game. I couldn't play it without my entire body tensing up. I died 1743 times. A+

Re: Games
at least this new version has the occasional autosave rather than having several hours between save points, and also lets you play things at three times speed if you want, as you run around and around and around for ever and ever and ever in increasingly terrible locations
Re: Games
at least that's the "final" one
that seems legally binding IMO

Re: Games
the first of these awful dungeons is a bit where you have to traverse a labyrinth (actually you also have to get to the labyrinth first, which involves running up and down sets of stairs in a zig zag for two hours), and the labyrinth is made up of about 50 identical hexagon screens with multiple exits/entrances, each filled with re-spawning monsters, and also they disable the map in this bit, and not only are there barriers between sections which involve you back tracking to find switches, and sometimes these switches are time based, so you have to sprint really fast to wherever the correct barrier is to get through it in time, or otherwise you'll havet o do it all over again, and there's also teleports between sections occasionally, which means you can't just run round the edges of the maze trying to find the correct paths, and also each room has a different name, but its a different entirely gibberish name that's almost exactly the same as all the other identical gibberish names the other identical hexagons have, and you don't even know why you're in this maze in the first place, and the story won't progress until you find the exact single hexagon you need to stand on to trigger the cutscene (and boss fight)
and then they follow that all up with a dungeon that does have a map, but which makes you run up 150 levels of a tower, fighting the same three monsters over and over again, forever, with occasional breaks for tedious boss fights, while switching off the use of items for half of it, and then introducing yet another incomprehensible teleport switch maze
your reard for this is four boss fights in a row. and then your reward for that is going to the final level of the game, which is two tedious levels of fighting infinitely spawning troops for a bit before you realise you just have to sprint past them all, and then another four boss fights in a row. THE END (well, once you've watched the 20 minute end movie and the unskippable credits and then rewatched the opening 20 minute unskippable movie at the start again because the only way to make a save file for new game plus apparently is there and then or never again)

Re: Games
and then it seems new game plus doesn't even let you start the new game with your old powers, it just makes you play the game again as normal, but this time for some reason you start at level 90 instead of level 1 on your power up tree (which means just one hit killing every enemy for the whole game, presumably)
Re: Games
yes
actually somehow this still wasn't as bad as absolutely all of final fantasy 15, or the very end of final fantasy 13 part 2, where it gives you a choice between getting revenge on you renemy and ending the world, or not taking revenge and letting him and the world live, and brilliantly both of those choices result in you killing your enemy and destroying the world so it ends on a cliffhangar to make you buy final fantasy 13 part 3 (i did not buy final fantasy 13 part 3)
Re: Games
this is on my "i would quite like to play this one day" list. but the last time it was cheap on the ps4 i bought spelunky 2 insteadvom wrote: Sat Jun 25, 2022 8:15 pm Celeste

Re: Games
I had it on my switch list thing for two years and then it finally went on sale a couple of weeks ago
It's very good, I'm not always a fan of the sadistically difficult platform genre but they seem to have gotten the frustrating / satisfying balance just right, and also the story is really lovely

Re: Games
I assume the bonus content will be so insanely difficult that I will throw my switch out of a window and into the sun
