I wish someone would do a Super Cassette Vision Mini, for a reasonable price - I'd prolly buy that! :)

The Super Cassette Vision was very much the Video 2000 to Nintendo and Sega's VHS & Beta. (If we're just talking about the Japanese / US markets, of course...)

Video 2000 Demonstration Tape

Techmoan produced a rather good vid 'bout Video 2000 - "The format that came third in a two-horse race" :D

I think I posted about Video 2000 once before, on the old forum. Or at least just linked to the demo tape above. Anyway, Techmoan's vid is worth a look.

I think you did. I just seem to have no memory of anything any more for some reason (the reason is old, the end of all things)

My son loves Zelda Botw. Loves it.

Loves it so much that he saved over my saved games.

Hundreds of hours of gameplay gone.

Urgh.

Also I've been playing Hollow Knight, which is pretty great

Technically I "finished" it on Monday but it's one of those games where the end is ONLY THE BEGINNING

I shouldn't read retro computer / video game articles penned by people who know sod all about it. Here's the BBC getting it very wrong.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-58281812

----------

The Intellivision was a portable console? Nope.

No mention of the booming European home computer market (Spectrum / C64/ Beeb / Amstrad) in the 80s, which meant that we never suffered "The Video Game Crash Of 1983".

The Nintendo NES - that's the Nintendo Nintendo Entertainment System, I presume?

No mention of Sega.

"Doom. The game depicts a soldier fighting demons on Mars, and was the pioneering First Person Shooter " - What about Wolfenstein 3D?

---------

The thing is, if the Beeb can mess up a very easy to research article like that, what else are they getting wrong, also, ie, more important stuff?

Gawd!

The complete americanisation of gaming nostalgia, where all was Atari and Nintendo and other tediously corporate behemoths, is one of the most depressing things the internet has wrought

I'm at 106% complete now and I think I might be done. Good game though

(the maximum is 112% apparently, due to extra quests being added in DLC updates)

Maybe they were referring to Doom's pioneering usage of walls that weren't all at 90 degree angles?

The BBC get all kinds of things wrong, and on occasion deliberately do not report on certain things or twist the actual story because otherwise it makes the Tories look bad. Then again, the entirety of the British media in 2021 does that. British newspapers / TV news channels seem to be actively evil and bigoted thanks to a select few media barons who can't cope with the idea of things moving on in any way.

The most recent atrocity they've carried out is that Ofcom have been pressured into withdrawing support from Stonewall, as part of a long series of sinister Tory-created attacks on that charity and the LGBT community as a whole. Ofcom claim that they're not doing over LGBT issues - meanwhile, just about any rich white man who says something vile on TV gets a pass from them, and has done for years.

Sorry for the rant. I'm just disgusted by everything in this country nowadays

Oh, I couldn't agree more.

And we mustn't forget all those media people who keep being 'silenced' for their views - as they repeatedly keep telling us in their newspaper columns, magazine articles, and on television. Grr!

I have been playing battle chasers: nightwar, which is exactly as generic a game as its name suggests.

I didn't even know I had this (i assume in a humble bundle or something, or maybe it was one of those free games sony gave everyone six months ago) but it's a bland rpg with turn based fight fantasy style battles and the sort of shit oversized character sprites you'd get in some neo geo fighting game and also really terrible voice acting and seemingly no story whatsoever somehow. also its not a sequel despite having a name like a sequel and also the story is written like a sequel where you're supposed to know who the characters are and why their bbanter is funny but you don't and its not

anyway i have spent four hours killing spiders and bats now and that is probably enough
